1963 - The legendary club Whisky A-Go-Go opened in Hollywood. The Doors were discovered there while opening for the band Love by Elektra boss Jac Holzman in 1966.

1964 - Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire became the first country album to reach the top of the American pop album charts.

1968 - Guitar virtuoso Jimi Hendrix moved into a London townhouse that was once owned by George Frederick Handel, the writer of “the Messiah”. Hendrix told the Daily Mirror that he’ll “not let the tradition down.”

1969 - This Was, the debut album from Jethro Tull, was released.

1975 -Led Zeppelin introduced their song “Kashmir” live for the first time when they performed it at a Rotterdam, Netherlands concert. The song is considered by the members of the band to be one of their crowning musical achievements.

1992 - Paul Simon performed in Johannesburg, becoming the first World pop star to do so in South Africa since a cultural boycott was lifted by the UN.

2003 - Drummer Alan Whyte left Oasis after contracting tendonitis.
